Dear Voter
As we near the primary election, it is important to know the candidates. Selecting a candidate is similar to hiring someone to take care of your business. When making your selection, ask yourself “would I trust this person to manage my business”? As candidates we are given many opportunities to express our opinions in forums, surveys, and speaking engagements. But, the problem is, anyone can say anything they feel the voter will respond to. What about the candidate’s history? What have they done, before running for office, that makes them a good person to represent you in your government business? Do they have experience working with others to get things done, have they held leadership roles, do they have a history of success?
Idaho is a wonderful place to raise our families, conduct our business, and play in the great outdoors. We have done a good job of maintaining our conservative values, our rights to protect ourselves, and have kept the Federal government out of our business. Lets keep it going.

Maintaining Idaho’s Culture and Values Amid a Changing Population
Idaho’s culture is one of strength, conservatism, and personal responsibility. Idahoans prefer to take care of themselves, they prefer less government interference, and they prefer the freedom to make decisions based on their personal beliefs. Government mandates, over-taxation, and handouts without effort, do not fit the values that made this state such a wonderful place to live. These values are extremely important to me, they are values that my parents taught me, and I have passed to my children. As an Idaho legislator, I will fight to keep these values front and center. The culture of freedom and the personal responsibility that goes with that freedom, will be insisted upon in everything I do.
Rule of Law and Victim Welfare
Public and personal safety has to be the highest priority. When it comes to crime, in most cases, we get what we accept. If we accept criminal acts, make excuses for the criminals, and do not recognize the plight of the victims, we create a society in which no one is safe or free. We see in many places not far us where crime is out of control, public safety is diminished, and people are fleeing their communities. Government’s primary role is to keep our citizens safe and to put freedoms in place to allow people to protect themselves. As a legislator I will fight for public safety, tough punishments for criminals, and for freedom of Idahoans to protect themselves and their families.
Support Local Jurisdiction’s Rights and Prevent State Overreach Into Local Issues
As Idahoans, we fight against the federal government’s overreach and their infringement on state’s rights. However, many of our own legislators are very guilty of the same infringement. As a long-term law enforcement executive and elected official, I have seen the repeated infringement on local jurisdiction’s rights to govern themselves. Local government is the very closest form of government to the people. They are also the easiest to remove if they are not doing their job. The needs of Idaho’s residents different greatly from location to location. The residents of Oakley’s needs are very different from those of Meridian’s, yet we frequently see state government pass one size fits all legislation. As your legislator, I will fight for local government’s power to govern themselves and keep government as close to the people as possible.
Deregulation
According to Governor Little, Idaho has achieved a status of the least regulated state in the union. Not only am I excited to hear this news, but I also strongly support it, and as a state legislator will work to maintain this position. Many of the regulations states have in place are no more than taxing vehicles put in place to supplement their already too high tax rates. Idaho is growing, businesses are coming in, and our economy is thriving due to such smart governance. While some regulation is necessary for an orderly society, having regulations simply to raise revenue or to correct a minor issue that could be corrected at the local or individual level it is wrong.
Back the Blue
I have spent more than half my life as a law enforcement officer. I could not be prouder of the service I provided to my community and the safety my efforts provided. I was blessed to serve a community that appreciated law enforcement and supported our efforts. The partnership between law enforcement and people we served changed our little piece of Idaho into something we could have only dreamed about. Financial support, prosecutorial support, and legislative support is all extremely important, but the key to successful public safety is the support of its citizens. As individuals we have to work in partnership with law enforcement to create the safe society we all desire. As your legislator and as a member of this great community, I will always Back the Blue.
